Llyn Brenig – Lake of Champions!

Fish brenigThe heather and spruce lined shores of Llyn Brenig have regularly staged the Home Fly-fishing Internationals and even the World Fly Fishing Championships. Preserved for fly-fishing, it has a well-established reputation and is extremely well stocked with 36,000 Rainbow Trout.

Fishermen on Llyn Brenig have many tales to tell – but the record for the one that “didn’t get away” is currently held by Dai Owen who caught a rainbow trout weighing 17lb 5 oz in July 2006 – up to date records and tips can be found on VisitWales Fishing website.

Boat and bank permits are available from the Visitor Centre. Day permits cost up to £16, with full season tickets at £468. Boat hire is up to £19 for a complete day – and there are some boats specifically for disabled anglers.

Fishing is allowed between 8am and 1 hour after sunset for bank fishing, and from 9am to 30 minutes after sunset for boat fishing. The season runs between mid March and mid October for Rainbow Trout.

Tackle is available from the Visitor Centre Tackle shops during the open season.
