If you enjoy watching wildlife or getting up close to plants Hiraethog is a fantastic place to visit. There is such a wide range of habitats here - moorland, farmland, forests, lakes and rivers –you will be sure to see a diversity of birdlife, plants and animals. The region is also home to several rare and lesser common species –the Black Grouse, Red Squirrel and Large Heath Butterfly.
Birdwatchers be sure to bring your notebooks –there is a wide variety of moorland, farmland, woodland and wetland birds including some wintering species.
Plant lovers can spot some of the more unusual plant species on the wetter moorland –the insect eating Sundew and Butterwort for instance and the Bog Asphodel.
Otters are now on the increase in North Wales – so keep a look out on the lakes and rivers.
